DEFACE

Globalization and the displacement of people have created an evolution in the structure of the human face. Using the structure of a class assignment where students exchange their thesis topic with one another to produce a piece using their thesis as a filter to explore someone else's, I developed a separate piece that exchanges one set of facial characteristic's for another (the eyes and nose). As a complete set of images that dares to draw comparisons from one face to the next, there is an overwhelmingly strange sense of something awry mixed with vertigo in realizing that between each morphed face was a missing original. The key to their believability lay in the precision of constructing the images, knowing the diversity of cultures that exist as mixed in western culture and our society's inherent mistake of putting faith in the photograph.
